Someone who actually gets me
"At last someone who actually understands and gets me!" Someone typed this into our chat during one of our sessions from the Thriving Child Challenge last week, and it took me a lot of effort to hold back the tears!
It's been a nice, restful (well, kind of!) weekend after a long, exciting week last week.
In case you missed it, we ran another one of our Thriving Child Challenges and there were so many of you this time around! I still think about that message, and so many other moments we had– meeting mum's and dads, hearing their stories, chatting with some of you about where you're at.
As a mum of three, two of whom are autistic, I know what it's like to feel lost and alone.
To feel like you're tirelessly advocating to no avail... and that is why, coupled with my experience as a clinical psychologist working in the learning disability industry for years now, I have made it my mission to help mums, dads, and carers feel less lost and alone.
To remind everyone that there is a way that you can move from burnt-out exhaustion, to helping your child thrive and reach their full potential, without forgetting about yourself, and to help them actually get to that place.
As with many things in the work I do, last week's Challenge really solidified that for me. I was once again reminded of why I do what I do, and why I love doing it. (So if any of you are struggling, know that my inbox is open.)
Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you've had time to rest and nourish your soul as we welcome another week ahead.
