Parents, you are the experts of your child

Parents, you are the experts of your child

Here's the truth, dear parents...

Amidst the chatter of teachers' advice and well-meaning relatives' suggestions, it's essential to remember that YOU know your child best.

YOU understand their needs like no one else can.

Let's face it: "standardised parenting techniques" may not cut it for our neurodiverse individuals.

I  remember my relatives forcing my son to eat vegetables at the table. Telling him "You’ve got to eat your vegetables." "You are a child. You will eat this."

But for him, his senses could not take it - they were overwhelmed. The vegetables were making him gag; he was physically being sick at the table because of what they were making him do.

And when I stood by him and stood up for him against other relatives or individuals, I was being told I was a bad parent for this because I "wasn’t feeding him properly”, “wasn’t giving him the right nutrition"...

They said I was "being too lenient".

But they were wrong.

See, my son knew the value of vegetables, he even liked how they tasted, but he just could not deal with the texture.

And so I've found a way to adapt.

To this day, I help him get his vegetables in a very blended soup.

So let this be your reminder:

  • It's time to trust our instincts

  • lean into our unique understanding of our children, and;

  • embrace approaches that truly resonate with their needs.

Together, let's champion a parenting style rooted in empathy, understanding, and individualised support.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to join my Nurture Space Facebook Group - where I am currently doing a free Thriving Child Challenge, a 5-day workshop designed to help you reduce wobbles and meltdowns and cultivate harmony in your family's life.

We started yesterday, but you can still catch up and see our chat in the Group!

See you soon,

Hannah
